Effect of initiation on bulk polymerization of styrene

Bachelor thesis summarizes in the literature part findings on field of the radical initiation of styrene bulk polymerization. Especially polymerization using mono- and bifunctional initiators, further fotoinitiation and thermal initiation of styrene polymerization. The practical part is focused on monitoring the effects of polymerization conditions on monomer conversion, molecular weight, density and viscosity of the prepolymers. Experiments were performed with monofunctional initiator (dibenzoylperoxide), at atmospheric pressure, with polymerization temperature 91 °C, and various concentrations of initiator. Determination of monomer conversion was carried out gravimetrically, the density was determined by titration method and viscosity using the Stokes equation. Molecular weights were then calculated using Kuhn-Mark-Houwink-Sakurad equation.

Baptism as Rite of passage

The bachelor's thesis deals with baptism as a rite of passage. The theoretical part is divided into two main sections. The first section defines the ritual, its functions and species. It also characterizes a rite of passage and initiation rites. The second section deals with baptism. The thesis defines themeaning of baptism, its history, traditions, and brings the current form of baptism for children and the current form of baptism for adults. It describes in more detail why baptism belongs to the rites of passage. The practical part is based on research. It contains nine interviews with the respondents. The main goal of the research is to find out whether people consider baptism as a rite of passage, or whether they see baptism as a ceremony associated with the marginal life situation of the birth of a child.

Katecheze jako uvedení do mše : Očima jednoho evangelíka Summary Catechesis as an introduction to the Mass: A Protestant's view In my diploma thesis I address the relationship between catechesis and the Mass, namely how the believers of the Catholic Church are acquainted with what is (or is meant to be) the centerpiece of their religious life. In the first - theoretical - part of the paper I first explain what the Mass is and how it has evolved historically, which gradually leads me to the analysis of its present form and content. I then turn my attention to catechesis, whose historical development I outline as well, and to its place among the various services of the Church. I also mention the close connection between catechesis and liturgy, which both contain a dimension of the other.Another common feature of catechesis and the Mass is that they are both Christocentric, yet at the same time anthropological in their focus on man. In the second part of my thesis I deal with the practical form of introduction to the Mass, which takes place with the help of catechetical aids (catechisms, books or coloring books). I analyze these aids and then conclude with the mention of the liturgical basis of the catechesis of converts and of those who are preparing for their First Holy Communion. Regulation of cell cycle in Bacillus subtilis.

2 Abstract Relations between several events running in bacterial cell during cell cycle were the subject of many studies during last years. More advanced techniques showed, that bacterial cell life has much more variable factors, than we supposed before. Relatively recent researches managed to reveal function and in few events molecular principle of several mechanisms coordinating those events such as progression of replication and its initiation, segregation of newly replicated chromosomes and after all synchronization of complex cell division machinery. Furthermore it showed variability of those events during changing living conditions of the cell. Self-control: disentanling inhibition and initiation

Self-control is usually defined as a unit in a regulatory cycle process. As such, it can be used for inhibition of urgent need or overriding impulsive responses, but it can also mean that person can engage in a behavior which is aversive at the moment. Contemporary the most influential is strength model of self-control that envisages one general and limited source of energy for every act of self-control. According to this model, after depleting this energy, one's ability to control his or her behavior or thought is impaired, even in domains that does not relate to the cause of the depletion. However, there has been substantial criticism of this model recently - regarding theoretical implausibility, possible bias in literature (or even manipulated results) and also growing body of evidence that is not in line with the model. Because of that, there are attempts to alter or dismiss the model. One of the possible updates is distinguishing between two domains of self-control (inhibition and initiation). This thesis overviews body of recent findings about self-control and proposes experimental design which could serve to verify hypothesis of existence of two independent domain of self- control. Translational control in immune response.

Immune reaction often requires a prompt modification of gene expression that in turn alters cellular physiology. There are an increasing number of articles supporting a critical role of translational control in this aspect of cellular biology. The aim of this work is to present some of cellular and molecular mechanisms that connect translational control and immune reaction in immune and somatic cells and can be possibly misused by some viruses. Perhaps not surprisingly, many immunologically relevant translational control mechanisms are similar to those acting during the stress response. Over the years it has been documented that the T cells, dendrocytes, Natural killer cells and macrophages utilize translational control for their immunological activation following stimulation. Combination of general and gene-specific translational control mechanisms enables fast changes in proteome and physiology that are characteristic for immune cell activation. The overall impact of translational control on immune response is further illustrated by the fact that it acts upon each stage of life of immune cells - from their activation, through survival, to a programmed cell death.
